About Fish City Charters

Fish City Charters is a locally operated Townsville fishing charter business offering personalised fishing experiences across the tropical estuaries, inshore waters and bluewater surrounding Townsville and Magnetic Island.

With more than 40 years of local fishing knowledge behind the operation, the focus is simple: small groups, personal attention and a fishing plan that can be adapted to the anglers aboard and the conditions on the day.

Whether you’re picking up a rod for the first time or you’re an experienced angler with a particular species or technique in mind, Fish City Charters aims to make the day enjoyable, flexible and genuinely personal.

Meet Eddie Riddle

Eddie has been fishing Townsville and North Queensland waters for more than 40 years, building an extensive knowledge of the region’s tropical estuaries, inshore waters and bluewater fishing opportunities.

His experience spans lure and bait fishing, barramundi and estuary fishing, inshore fishing and bluewater sportfishing, giving him the flexibility to tailor each charter to different anglers, techniques and conditions.

Over the years, Eddie has also worked extensively within the recreational fishing industry and as a fishing writer, sharing his knowledge and experience with anglers across North Queensland.

For guests, that experience translates into practical guidance, patient tuition when needed and the local knowledge to adapt the day’s fishing to the opportunities available.

A Personal Approach to Fishing

No two days on the water are exactly the same, and Fish City Charters doesn’t operate to a rigid fishing formula. Each charter is planned around the anglers aboard, their experience and interests, and the conditions and fishing opportunities available on the day.

Some guests want to chase a particular species, while others simply want to enjoy a good day’s fishing and see what Townsville’s waters have to offer. That flexibility is an important part of the Fish City Charters experience.

Small groups also mean more personal attention, whether that involves helping a beginner learn the basics, refining a technique with an experienced angler or simply adjusting the fishing plan as the day unfolds.

The Boat

Fish City Charters operates a 5.8-metre Sportsman Island Reef 19, powered by a Yamaha 150 hp outboard and equipped with Garmin and Humminbird electronics and a 36-volt Minn Kota trolling motor.

The vessel is in AMSA survey for four passengers plus skipper and is set up for the varied fishing conditions found around Townsville, from tropical estuaries and sheltered inshore waters through to bluewater fishing.

Passenger numbers are deliberately kept small, allowing plenty of fishing room aboard and helping maintain the personal style of charter that Fish City Charters is known for.

Fishing Townsville for More Than 40 Years

Eddie has watched Townsville’s fishing change considerably over the decades, but the value of local knowledge remains the same. Understanding the region’s tides, seasons, weather patterns and fish movements plays an important part in deciding where and how to fish on any given day.

That depth of experience is especially valuable in North Queensland, where fishing conditions can vary enormously throughout the year. Rather than simply following a fixed routine, Eddie draws on decades of local experience to make the most of the opportunities the day presents.
